Two problems, two approaches — calming active breakouts and resurfacing the scarring they leave. We build the plan around which one you're actually dealing with.
Why Acne and Acne Scarring Need Different Treatments
These get grouped together, but they’re not the same problem. Active acne is inflammation and congestion happening now — the goal is to calm it and clear the pore. Scarring is structural damage left behind after the inflammation resolved, sometimes years ago, and no amount of clearing treatment will lift an indented scar.
Treating them in the wrong order is the common mistake. Resurfacing over active breakouts can spread bacteria and worsen inflammation, which is why we settle the acne first and revise the scarring afterwards.
Our Approach:
Calms Active Breakouts: Clears congestion and reduces the inflammation driving new lesions.
Resurfaces Indented Scarring: Rebuilds collagen beneath depressed scars to lift them toward the surface.
Fades Post-Acne Marks: Treats the flat red and brown discolouration left after a breakout heals.
Have active breakouts that products and routine haven’t controlled
Have indented or pitted scarring left from acne that’s long since cleared
Notice flat red or brown marks where spots used to be
Have congested, oily skin prone to blackheads and recurring lesions
Want a structured plan rather than trying one treatment after another
(Severe cystic acne is a medical condition that often needs prescription management. We’ll be honest if that’s what we see and recommend you see a dermatologist first.)
They look similar to most people, but they’re completely different and respond to different treatments:
Marks Are Flat: Red or brown discolouration where a spot healed. These are pigment, not damage, and often fade with peels, IPL, or simply time.
Scars Have Depth: Indented or pitted texture where tissue was lost. These require resurfacing or needling to rebuild collagen — colour treatments won’t touch them.
Many People Have Both: Which is why we assess in person and sequence treatments rather than applying one approach to everything.
We examine your skin under magnification to identify what's active, what's pigment, and what's true scarring — then plan the order. Active acne is settled before any resurfacing.
The Treatment Phase
Depending on what we find, this may involve peels or clarifying treatments for active acne, then microneedling, fractional laser, or CO2 resurfacing for scarring. Sessions and intensity are matched to your skin.
The Results
Active breakouts typically improve within weeks. Scar revision builds across months as collagen rebuilds, with results continuing to improve well after your final session.
Because the plan depends on what we find, pricing varies with the treatments involved — clarifying peels sit at the lower end, while deeper scar resurfacing costs more. We’ll map out the full plan and total at your consultation before anything begins.

Everything you’re wondering about acne and scar revision, answered.
Can acne scars be removed completely?
Significant improvement is realistic; complete removal generally isn’t. Most clients see deep scarring shallow substantially and surface texture even out considerably. We’ll tell you honestly what’s achievable for your specific scarring rather than overpromising.
How long does it take to see results?
Active acne usually improves within a few weeks. Scar revision is slower — collagen rebuilds over three to six months, so the full result of a session isn’t visible for months.
Which treatment is best for my scars?
It depends on the type. Shallow, rolling scars often respond well to microneedling; deeper, sharply defined scarring usually needs fractional or CO2 resurfacing. Assessment in person is what determines this.
Can I treat scarring while I still have breakouts?
No — resurfacing over active acne risks spreading bacteria and worsening inflammation. We settle the acne first, which also means the scarring we treat is the final picture rather than a moving target.
Will treatment cause me to break out?
Some treatments can trigger temporary purging as congestion clears. This settles within a few weeks and is a normal part of the process rather than a sign it isn’t working.
Is it safe for darker skin tones?
Yes, with appropriate treatment selection. Deeper phototypes are more prone to post-inflammatory pigmentation, so we favour needling and RF over ablative lasers where relevant — assessed in person before anything is planned.
